Leonard recently left the team for the second time this season to continue rehab on his injured quad in NY, and the Spurs have reportedly grown pessimistic that Leonard will return to the court at all this season.

Spurs staff has traveled to NY to meet with Leonard and stay abreast of his treatment and activity, sources said.

For the second time, he chose to leave the team and travel to New York City to rehabilitate his quad injury. Leonard has been using the National Basketball Players Association headquarters gymnasium facilities in recent days, sources said. The first time came ahead of the February All-Star break, where he spent three weeks nursing his quad injury. "When he and his group feel he's ready, then he'll be ready".

The season-long drama regarding Leonard's health has left a lingering cloud over a franchise that needs to win its final six regular-season games to stretch its streak of 50-win seasons to 19.

Added up, the playoffs are about to commence and San Antonio has no clue whether it will have the services of the two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year. The situation has led to some tension within the organization, with the team holding a players-only meeting last month to clear the air.

"I've been through it", Tony Parker told reporters recently.

Leonard initially sought treatment within the organization before consulting with a specialist in NY on January 16. He has been cleared by team doctors but has not felt 100 percent comfortable on the leg when attempting to play or practice.

"That's where he's doing his rehab", Popovich said. That remains the case against the Clippers, as Kawhi Leonard will not play due to the "return from injury management" label, according to the official injury report. In limited minutes in Leonard's nine games this season, he averaged 16.2 points and 4.7 rebounds a game.

The growing disconnect between Leonard and the Spurs has made the media concoct various rumors about his future.
