Prisoner Hops In A Taxi At JFK Airport And Escapes ICE Custody

Surveillance video shows the man leaving the airport in a taxi a law enforcement source said

Port Authority officials tell the station it was around 8:30 p.m. when the prisoner arrived on a plane at John F. Kennedy International airport in Queens and was supposed to be put on a connecting flight at Terminal 4.

According to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, 31-year-old Mohamadou Lamine Mbacke from Senegal.

A Senegalese man being deported because of criminal convictions escaped Tuesday night from federal immigration agents escorting him to a flight leaving from JFK Airport bound for his homeland, authorities said. The circumstances surrounding the detainee's escape were not immediately clear.

Surveillance video shows Mbacke got into a taxi around 9 p.m. and departed the airport.

Transportation Security Administration officials at Gate B23 in Terminal 4 directed Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to uncuff him.

Law enforcement sources say he has a violent history, and was being deported over past weapons offenses. He was wearing a purple or black shirt, jeans and sneakers. He then bolted, Port Authority police said.

"Mbacke is described as being 6'3" tall and weighs approximately 190 pounds.

A spokeswoman for ICE declined to comment and Port Authority Police did not respond to a request for comment.
