DiGenova will not join Trump's legal team

Trump Won't Hire 2 Lawyers Whose Appointments Were Announced Days Ago

On Sunday, Trump alluded to those conflicts and pushed back against reports that top Washington lawyers rejected chances to represent him, saying he was "very happy" with his lawyers.

But on Sunday, Sekulow said in a statement that diGenova and diGenova's law partner and wife Victoria Toensing won't be joining his legal team on the Mueller investigation due to "conflicts".

Trump's lawyer John Dowd resigned Thursday from the legal team handling special counsel Robert Mueller's federal investigation into whether the 2016 Trump campaign colluded with Russian Federation. He said the conflicts would not prevent them from assisting Trump "on other legal matters".

Dowd, a defense attorney who had been serving as the president's lead lawyer, had been handling negotiations over a potential Trump interview with Mueller or his prosecutors.

Trump's legal team shakeup comes as he weighs whether to agree to an interview with Mueller.

Dowd's resignation itself came less than two weeks after Trump named him in a tweet and claimed "I am VERY happy with my lawyers".

DiGenova and Toensing, who are married and run their own law firm, are also staunch critics of the Clinton family.

Sekulow announced last week that veteran Washington attorney Joseph diGenova, a former USA attorney for the District of Columbia, had been hired onto Trump's legal team, but as of Friday, his role was still in question. according to two sources familiar with the matter.

Since grudgingly signing the bill on Friday after threatening a veto, Trump has faced fierce criticism from conservatives who have accused him of caving to congressional Democrats.

But Mr Trump's personal lawyer said "conflicts" had prevented their hiring.

Olson's firm, Gibson Dunn, decided there were too many conflicts with existing clients tied to the Russian Federation investigation and did not support the move, sources familiar with the matter told CNN.

Looking on the bright side on Sunday, the president said that "much can be done with the $1.6 billion given to building and fixing the border wall".

Joseph diGenova will not be joining President Donald Trump's legal team.

Trump said on Twitter from his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida that because of the military funding, "many jobs are created and our Military is again rich".
