9-year-old shoots sister to death over video game controller

Boy, 9, kills sister after shooting her in the head in argument over video game controller

The boy had reportedly grabbed a gun Saturday (March 17) afternoon after his elder sister refused to give him the video game controller.

A 9-year-old boy in MS allegedly shot his older sister in the head because she would not relinquish control of a videogame controller, police say.

A local sheriff announced on Sunday that the teen had died of her injuries in a Memphis hospital. Following recent mass shootings, certain policymakers in the USA have been trying to link gun crime to video games, and given the circumstances surrounding this latest tragedy, it's entirely possible that the links between the two will continue to be made. I can't answer that.

It's unclear how the boy accessed the gun.

The Sheriff said he wasn't sure what charges would be filed. "I do know its a tragedy".

The Tupelo Public School District Superintendent says Dijonae White was in the 8th grade. "We want to do what's right and we're going to get it right".

'A 9 year old will live this rest of his life with the guilt and stigma of being the kid who killed his sister over a stupid video game.

"This is the first time I've ever dealt with any child that was shot like that", Cantrell said. When parents are held responsible, then perhaps parents will begin to behave responsibly when they know they may be held accountable'. Just recently, White House representatives met with members of the video game industry to discuss gun violence.
