Arizona Cardinals to sign quarterback Sam Bradford

James Lang-USA TODAY Sports

His one-year deal is worth up to $20 million, including $15 million guaranteed and an additional one-year option for $20 million. Bradford could be a bridge quarterback before the team addresses its long-term future at the position later.

Bradford, who played college football at Oklahoma, was the first-overall draft pick by the Rams in 2010.

While in purple, Bradford went 9-8 as a starter and finished with a 71.8 percent completion percentage, 23 touchdowns, five interceptions and a 101.1 quarterback rating. Late Monday night, Case Keenum agreed to a deal with the Denver Broncos and it appears the New York Jets are pursuing Teddy Bridgewater.

The Arizona Cardinals are reportedly replacing one Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback with another.

Bradford had an outstanding 2016 season for the Vikings, but lingering knee problems as a result of previous surgeries to fix an ACL caused him to miss most of the 2017 season.

Bradford is one of three Vikings quarterbacks that will become unrestricted free agents on March 14. He completed 27 of 32 passes for 346 yards, three touchdowns, and no picks against the Saints in Week 1 before that knee injury derailed his season. He started 50 games in left field, as Toronto gave him his largest number of plate appearances (325) across his seven-year big league career. He didn't start another game the rest of the year.

Bradford underwent season-ending knee surgery in November with hopes of curing ligament damage, but the procedure might not have returned him to full fitness.

Another Vikings quarterback has moved on as Minnesota focuses on Kirk Cousins.

But ultimately, losing Bradford is no sweat off the Vikings' back after the team did just fine without him in 2017.
