FBI Is Reportedly Investigating Ivanka Trump's Business Deal in Vancouver

FBI Investigators are reportedly looking into whether any of the deals she or her husband Jared Kushner were involved before coming to work at the White House could leave her open to pressure from foreign agents

According to CNN, counterintelligence officials are working to determine whether any deals struck by the U.S. First Daughter might have left her vulnerable to pressure from foreign entities.

The FBI has been looking into the negotiations and financing surrounding Trump International Hotel and Tower in Vancouver, according to a United States official and a former U.S. official.

The network said it is not yet clear "why investigators are examining this particular deal".

CNN said on Thursday it is standard procedure for the FBI to probe foreign contacts and worldwide business deals as part of a background check investigation for security clearances.

"CNN is wrong that any hurdle, obstacle, concern, red flag or problem has been raised with respect to Ms. Trump or her clearance application", said Peter Mirijanian.

Investigations into foreign contacts and business deals are standard in background checks of the nature Ivanka is now undergoing.

The White House, the FBI, and the Holborn Group which owns the Vancouver project have all refused to comment regarding the report on Ivanka Trump's investigation.

It is possible the timing of the deal is of interest to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, because it is one of only a few Trump-branded properties to open since the president took office. The Holborn Group rejected calls by Vancouver officials and activists to remove the Trump name from the hotel.

News of the investigation comes after numerous reports this week that the president, his son Donald Trump Jr. and his son-in-law Jared Kushner have become potential targets in the special counsel investigation that began over Russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election.

But it is being made hard, CNN reported, by "the complexity of the Trump Organization's business deals, which often rely on worldwide financing and buyers".

"Ultimately it's about aligned visions", Ivanka Trump.

The Trump Organization does not own the building, noted CNN.

Ivanka played a key role in the $360 million project, which was backed by the Canadian-based development company Holborn Group.

Alan Garten, executive vice president and chief legal officer for the Trump Organization, said, "the company's role was and is limited to licensing its brand and managing the hotel".

"One of the senior vice-presidents pulled me aside and said: 'Joo Kim, it's really important in your presentation that you connect with Ivanka".
