McMaster may be out as Trump's national security adviser

Will Trump Ship HR McMaster Back to Afghanistan?

Press secretary Sarah Sanders said on Tuesday that Trump "still has confidence in General McMaster". But circumstances kind of forced him to hire McMaster anyway.

Meanwhile, Congressmen close to Trump do not believe that McMaster's job is any safer now. One of the things we learn from the Michael Wolff book is that Trump hated McMaster's presentation to him when he was being looked at to replace Flynn to lead the National Security Council. Why? "Any decision with regards to staff, the White House will make those determinations", chief spokesperson Dana White said.

Neither Kelly nor McMaster responded to requests for comment on whether they would remain in the administration.

It's unclear whether Trump will adopt Mattis' recommendations, which the president requested in an August 25 executive order. "Remember the Dirty Dossier, Uranium, Speeches, Emails and the Podesta Company!" For months, Trump has privately expressed irritation with McMaster stemming from differences in "personality and style", the senior Republican source said.

The memo notes that the president wants Mattis to advise him on "concepts of operation" for the event, according to Politico.

McMaster has been reported to be on the outs off and on for awhile, but so far nothing has come of it.

Several courts have blocked the ban from coming into force while lawsuits against it are pending.

Still, McMaster could have a tough time back in uniform full time.

Trump said the objective of the parade would be to honor the military.

Another possible option would be to name McMaster as the replacement for Gen. John Nicholson who has served as commander of the coalition in Afghanistan since 2016.

The Pentagon is quietly looking for a four-star general's job to give to three-star Lt. Gen. McMaster. "Any decision with respect to any changes" will be up to the White House, she said.

A second defense official said McMaster is well aware of those political sensitivities.

However, all the officials were quick to add that the tensions could blow over, at least for now, as have previous episodes of discord between the president and other top officials who have fallen out of favor, including Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

If a suitable job couldn't be found, McMaster could opt to retire.
