Next Falcon 9 Launch Delayed Until Feb 21

Payload and vehicle remain healthy.

SpaceX is slated to launch a rocket from a pad at California's Vandenberg Air Force Base at 6:17 a.m. local time on Wednesday.

'We've got a special boat to catch the fairing, ' Musk said in a press conference following the Falcon Heavy launch.

But now, due to the need of some final checks for the upgraded Falcon 9 fairing, the launch has been delayed. The estimated cost of Falcon 9 launch is now at around $63 million, assuming total expendable configuration, so cutting a potential $6 million from that total, on top of reusable booster benefits, could be significant. According to Space.com those experimental solutions include parachutes and equipping recovery ships with metal arms. Also, the first-stage booster which was used to launch Taiwan's Formosat-5 satellite in August 2017 is ready. "Instead, Facebook opted to lease broadband onboard Spacecom's AMOS-6 satellite, which was destroyed when a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket exploded during fueling before launch in 2016". Why not? The Falcon Heavy will give a boost to multiple planned space missions that were technologically not feasible until now, literally.

Nonetheless, it is known that humans can make it possible to bring in minerals from asteroids, considering the Falcon Heavy's first successful test fire. Most notably, they love to be able to re-use parts of their rockets in order to reduce the overall cost of launching those rockets into space. From Feb. 18, the launch has been pushed to Feb. 21. Falcon 9 was supposed to launch on February 18 from Vandenberg Air Force Base pad, sending the company's Starlink internet satellites and Paz satellite into orbit. The company carried Musk's Tesla Roadster on board with a mannequin in a spacesuit called Starman behind the wheel earlier this month.

Paz won't be riding alone on the recycled Falcon 9.
