Apple pushes fix to latest text bomb bug

Apple has released a patch for the Indian character bug that causes severe crashes on all platforms

That update is iOS 11.2.6, and it is highly recommended that you give it a download right now. The only way to get access is to have another friend send you a message so you can try to open the app and delete the thread that contained the character.

Then, when you go to reboot your device, this bug will lock-up the Messages app as well.

Apple was informed of the bug and told TechCrunch last week that a fix was forthcoming - in fact, it was already fixed in a beta.

News of the bug made the rounds last week with videos showing how messaging a specific character could cause the iOS springboard to crash.

As reported by Forbes, the Cupertino-based tech firm confirmed a major bug in the iOS 11.2.5 update, in which the important apps such as Messages, WhatsApp, Gmail, Outlook for iOS, and Facebook Messenger can not be opened.

However, Apple's next iOS 11.3 update for iPhones is set to bring a major change in the user experience of old iPhones. Pushing out iOS 11.2.6 should help put an end to that. In mid-January this year, a researcher called Abraham Masri disclosed an issue, dubbed "chaiOS", which could "freeze the recipient's device and possibly restart it" by attackers armed with only a short link. Once inside the General settings options, they should tap Software Update so the device could start downloading the latest update.

"It fixes an issues where some third-party apps could fail to connect to external accessories".

Apple has always been quick in releasing updates if it encounters any bug on any of its platforms. The company has rolled out the fix in the form of a supplementary update across the world.
