Officials discuss arrest of suspect wanted for widely shared child porn video

Jerrell Washington

Authorities say Germaine Moore, 44, wanted in a multi-state child pornography investigation, turned himself into authorities at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning (February 6, 2018). But for many of those people, the decision will backfire since they could be charged with distributing child pornography - a criminal offense. Alabama police, where Moore surrendered said his wife was also detained but was not cooperating, the article stated.

Meanwhile, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office in MI announced Monday evening Moore is facing eight different charges in Detroit, including four counts of criminal sexual conduct.

Both Moore and his fiancé are in the Elmore County Jail.

Moore is charged with first degree criminal sexual conduct and sexual abusive activity.

"Due to a video being shared at an alarming rate, CrimeStoppers reached out to our Law Enforcement Partners and asked was there anything that the media could do to stop the spread of the video", Executive Director Tony Garrett said according to the Montgomery Advertiser.

Authorities have identified and charged the suspect in a viral video showing a young girl performing oral sex on a man.

Police said the victim has been located and is safe.

Another man was charged in connection with the distribution of the video on social media, Montgomery police said. The assaults are believed to have happened in Detroit and his home in Alabama. "That's all you got to do".

He is expected to be extradited from Alabama.

Moore was wanted on 11 felony charges in Alabama and Detroit.

Local, regional and worldwide police have advised their citizens that sharing the video, no mater the noblest of intentions is a criminal offence.

Facebook released a statement saying: "We do not allow the sharing of child exploitative images on Facebook or Messenger - even to express outrage".

Investigators tell us that child has been found and is not in danger.

The video which was circulated on social media was shared worldwide. Regardless of intention, sharing such imagery is harmful and illegal. "When we become aware of such images, we remove them and notify the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. We urge people never to share such content and to report it to local authorities immediately".

Lt. Brooke Walker with the State Bureau of Investigation's Special Victims Unit is scheduled to provide details about the case at a news conference Tuesday afternoon.
