Three Turkish soldiers killed in attacks in Syria's Afrin, Turkey's Kilis

DTK co-chair sent to prison for criticizing Turkey’s Afrin operation

Most of the civilians killed are Syrians displaced by conflict in other areas of the country, according to the PYD, the ruling political party in Rojava, northern Syria.

Human Rights Watch condemned on Saturday Ankara for using "lethal force" against Syrian refugees attempting to cross over to Turkey to flee the violence in their war-torn country.

Human Rights Watch spoke to 16 Syrian refugees who were smuggled into Turkey a year ago. The seventh one was killed in a YPG attack on the border, without giving further details.

According to their accounts, 10 people were killed, including a child. A ninth suspect was killed during the operation to round up the group, they said.

"Turkish border guards placed them in a large square where they would remain until the guards had collected enough people to send back to Syria".

Asylum seekers also must travel a risky terrain "littered with landmines, steep climbs, narrow paths along ravines, and valleys".

Turkey's foreign and defense ministers on Saturday phoned the Anadolu Agency's correspondent who was injured in Friday's cross-border attack perpetrated by the terrorist PYD/PKK organization to inquire about his health. But the group said, "Turkey's generous hosting of large numbers of Syrians does not absolve it of its responsibility to help those seeking protection at its borders".

Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu on February 3 reiterated Turkey's stance that the country fully backed Syria's territorial integrity despite the launch of Afrin operation.

Operation Olive Branch was launched by Turkey on January 20 to remove the PKK/PYD/YPG/KCK and Daesh terrorists from Afrin in northwestern Syria.

He also said Turkey was aware of some neighboring countries' unhappiness over the role Turkey was playing in Syria.
