Huawei Mate 10 Pro Won't Be Sold In The US Through AT&T

Visitors walk past Huawei's booth during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona

According to the Wall Street Journal, AT&T, which is the second-largest provider of mobile phone services in the USA in terms of subscribers, changed its mind about a deal to sell Huawei phones.

Rumors have been brewing for some time now that Chinese phone maker Huawei will officially make its Mate 10 Pro flagship available in the United States through USA carriers.

It's been widely expected that Huawei would take to the CES 2018 stage this week and announce a deal with AT&T that'd get its phones on the carriers shelves. No explanation for the decision has been given, and a Huawei spokesperson would only say that "Huawei has proven itself by delivering premium devices with integrity globally and in the United States market".

Huawei's plans for growth in the US led to heightened scrutiny by Congress. US customers who were looking forward to the device can get it, but not in the manner that many prefer and have grown accustomed to.

Huawei has denied any involvement in espionage on behalf of the Chinese government.

Officially, neither Huawei nor AT&T ever confirmed that a deal was even taking place and there's certainly no reason to expect that they would comment on this failed arrangement.

Its Mate 10 Pro smartphone, for example, will apparently be available unlocked for customers to buy, an unnamed source told the publication.

For now, part of Huawei's plan is to reach out to US consumers using alternative channels such as online and physical retail stores. It's said that Huawei was planning to announce the news Tuesday, aka tomorrow, but now the company's deal with AT&T is no more.

Seemingly unmindful of the setback, Huawei made known of its resolve to have a get-go on the US market.
