Unruly man with guns, ammunition arrested at downtown Houston hotel

Houston police have arrested a man who was initially going to be charged with drunk and disorderly conduct at a downtown hotel until officers discovered an arsenal of weapons in his room

Police spokesman Victor Senties says the man later told investigators he'd brought the guns into his room from his truck because he didn't want them to get stolen.

A man has been arrested on multiple charges after police located a small arsenal of guns on the top floor of the Hyatt Regency on Louisiana Street downtown, Houston police said.

The investigation is ongoing, but the incident started when authorities were dispatched to the hotel after an off-duty police officer working security called for backup in dealing with a heavily intoxicated man at the bar. They seized an AR-15, a shotgun, a handgun and ammunition, Lt. Gordon Macintosh said.

Stanley was arrested and charged with trafficking heroin, four counts of possession of scheduled drugs, unlawful carrying of a pistol and simple possession of marijuana. Hotel staff said he was drunk at the bar, and refused to leave. Investigators say he was by himself and they are trying to figure out why he had the weapons.

The Hyatt has a sprawling New Year's Eve party planned for midnight Sunday, according to its website.

Acevedo said on Twitter earlier Sunday that the situation was "contained" and there were no specific threats to Houston.

Houston police say they don't believe an intoxicated man arrested for having several guns in his hotel room meant to use the weapons.
