Palestinian Girl Arrested For Repeatedly Slapping Israeli Soldier

Ahed al-Tamimi the fearless 16-year-old Palestinian girl nicknamed

His cousin, 17-year-old Ahed al-Tamimi, was detained on Tuesday morning by Israeli forces for slapping and kicking Israeli soldiers on the same day that Muhammad was injured.

At age 13, Ahed won the Handala Courage Award in Turkey, and rose to global prominence after a video and series of photos were published of the young activist and her mother and aunt desperately attempting to save her injured brother Mohammad, then 11-years old, from being arrested by Israeli forces in 2015.

Al-Tamimi's father said the girl was reacting to the shooting of her cousin, Mohammed al-Tamimi, on 15 December, by Israeli soldiers during a protest against Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

A quick Google of the Ahed's name brings up pages of images of her growing up over the years - a red-faced girl with wild blonde curls fearlessly screaming and chanting with rage directly in front of Israeli soldiers.

The Palestinians struggle against the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip, territories that Israel seized in the 1967 and has held ever since, despite worldwide protest.

The army said that the soldiers "acted professionally and were not dragged into violence", though they could have arrested the girls. Tonight, soldiers raided Nabi Saleh and arrested Ahed Tamimi. The 14-year-old boy is now in a coma.

Ahed's cousin, Mohammed who is still in medically induced coma was shot in the face with a rubber bullet during a protest against a USA decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

Mohammed Tamimi was shot at close range in the village of Nabi Saleh in the occupied West Bank on Friday, according to witnesses.

The young activist is Ahed Tamimi, a 16-year-old Palestinian who has become a visible symbol of the Palestinian resistance against Israel.

The army had also posted that "It was wrong not to arrest her immediately, because she tried to block the soldiers' mission".

Soon, more video surfaced which showed Ahed and three other women and girls shouting at and pushing the soldiers.

Manal Tamimi, who is related to Ahed, wrote on Twitter that the video "is exactly fitting our narrative".

"Ahed was telling the soldiers to get away from our home", Bassem said.

In 2012, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan sat down for breakfast with Ahed who won the Turkish Handala Courage Award for challenging the Israeli troops in her village.

The Israeli security forces then began using the sponge-tipped or "plastic" bullet in Israel and Jerusalem, while continuing using rubber bullets in the occupied West Bank.
