NBC looking to revive 'The Office'

'The Office' Revival at NBC Featuring Old, New Cast — 2018-19 Season | TVLine

TVLine reported the revival would feature a mix of new and old cast members. Both Variety and Deadline report that the network is in talks for a new series set that will once again be set at Dunder Mifflin's Scranton, Pennsylvania branch.

There is some sad news though because this new revival of the show will not star Steve Carell as the character of Michael Scott. Carell is the only veteran stated as definitively not appearing, but some of the other big names could be absent too, as the report also says the network is searching for a new Regional Manager. According to TV Line, NBC has already started the search to find a new boss to lead the ensemble comedy.

Network president Bob Greenblatt has previously said he'd be keen to bring it back if there was interest. Now, even supporting players on the series, like Craig Robinson, who portrayed Darryl, and Mindy Kaling, who portrayed Kelly, are sitcom stars in their own right, with multiple projects in the works. "It would nearly have to be a scenario where it's 'the lost tapes of The Office,' where you somehow go back in time and there's all of these lost stories where we weirdly look 5 years older". I've talked to Greg [Daniels, producer and writer of The Office US] four times over the past few years.

The revival is in the planning phases mainly because the return of NBC's Will & Grace proved to be a hit.

"It's always, 'Maybe someday, but not now". "If he wants to do it, I would do it", he said.
