Fury receives backdated 2-year doping ban, free to box again

Tyson Fury will need to reapply for his boxing license, which was suspended by the British Boxing Board of Control past year over separate incidents of drug use and medical issues.

UK Anti-Doping has cleared the former world heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury to fight again.

The 29-year-old has been given the go-ahead to fight again immediately, subject to receiving a license. He has not fought since beating Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015 to win the WBA, IBF and WBO belts.

"Get it out of your mind that it's cemented that I'll be going with you guys because I have a vast array of boards of control around the world with open arms welcoming (to me)", said Fury.

He had been charged along with his cousin Hughie, who also failed a test for nandrolone in February 2015.

A charge against Tyson Fury for failing to provide a sample in September 2016 was withdrawn by UKAD.

A mega fight between the two has always been mooted, especially as Joshua was the one who pieced together the fragmented heavyweight championships after Fury lost the belts by being stripped of his titles and then retiring.

He now claims to be on the road to full fitness and has spoken of his desire to reclaim the world titles, which are "rightfully" his. "I'm coming for you".

WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder says he would welcome Tyson Fury back to the ring and would want to fight him - once the Briton is fit enough.

The Stewards of the Board are set to meet in January to discuss Fury's application, but in a social media post he later deleted, the heavyweight suggested he might fight elsewhere in protest.

A renewed licence is now in the hands of the BBBofC, whose general secretary Robert Smith told Sky Sports last month: "It is publicly known that Mr Fury has a number of health issues and we would have to look at that".

The 29-year-old has also had to battle self-confessed problems with cocaine use and depression as well as a negative drugs test returned in 2015.

'Hughie Fury has no outstanding matters with the British Boxing Board of Control at this time.

Fury and his cousin Hughie both tested for nandrolone, a banned steroid, in December 2015 but they have always denied taking it and blamed the rogue result on eating a wild boar which had not been castrated.
