Mueller Removed Top FBI Agent Over Possible Anti-Trump Texts

Trump lawyer Collusion is not a crime

Special counsel Robert Mueller removed one of the FBI's top Russian counterintelligence experts from his team of investigators after an internal investigation found messages he sent that could be interpreted as showing political bias for Hillary Clinton and against President Donald Trump, according to USA officials briefed on the matter.

According to The New York Times, Peter Strzok not only "helped lead" the investigation into Hillary Clinton's emails, but he "played a major role" in the Trump-Russia investigation.

According to the report, Strzok was transferred to the FBI's human resources department in the summer after text messages between him and a colleague were discovered, in which they criticized Trump.

Mr Trump wrote that after years under fired FBI director James Comey, "with the phony and dishonest Clinton investigation (and more)", the agency's reputation "is in Tatters - worst in History!"

The people discussing the matter did not further describe the political messages between Strzok and Page, except to say the two would sometime react to campaign news of the moment.

"Immediately upon learning of the allegations, the special counsel's office removed Peter Strzok from the investigation", said Peter Carr, a spokesman for the special counsel's office, as quoted by the Times.

A lawyer for Storzok declined to comment.

"By hiding from Congress, and from the American people, documented political bias by a key FBI head investigator for both the Russian Federation collusion probe and the Clinton email investigation, the FBI and DOJ engaged in a willful attempt to thwart Congress' constitutional oversight responsibility", he said. Mr. Horowitz is scrutinizing Mr. Comey's decision to hold a news conference in July 2016 to announce that the bureau was recommending that Mrs. Clinton not be charged, and how Mr. Comey reopened the investigation just days before the 2016 election.

The allegations came to light after the Justice Department's inspector general started examining Strzok's messages. A spokeswoman at the Justice Department said "we are aware of the allegation and taking any and all appropriate steps".

"I am concerned, however, that our chairman is willing to use the subpoena and contempt power of the House, not to determine how the Russians interfered in our election or whether the president obstructed Justice, but only to distract from the core of our investigation", Schiff said.
