After a brief absence, CBS returns to DISH

CBS and Dish Network reach deal to end blackout

Dish doesn't share exactly how much it pays CBS to retransmit its channels, but CBS's CEO Les Moonves estimated the network charges traditional cable companies $2 per subscriber at Goldman Sachs' Communacopia media conference earlier this year.

Late Thursday night, Dish Network and CBS reached an agreement, hours after more than three million customers were unable to watch the LA Chargers and Dallas Cowboys game.

CBS debuted its own subscription service, CBS All Access, in 2014, offering live and on-demand access to its robust library.

CBS fired back in its statement Wednesday, claiming that Dish Network is "desperate to retain subscribers" and "clearly, pulling content providers off the air is Dish's way of doing things". On the site, Dish alleges CBS is asking the satellite operator to pay "more than 50 percent higher than what we now pay to carry this channel".

CBS Corp. and Dish Network resolved their contentious carriage fee dispute by agreeing to a new distribution deal, restoring CBS station signals to millions of Dish customers across the country who went without CBS football on Thanksgiving. The antenna offer was based on the reception available at the subscriber's home.

For some satellite subscribers, a standoff between Dish and CBS over a carriage agreement meant no traditional National Football League on Thanksgiving, an unforgivable slight to some.

CBS officials in a statement said the contract was a multi-year agreement. At the same time, CBS and other content companies have asked for huge increases in the fees they receive for their programming to pay for rising sports rights fees and other programming costs. CBS told Deadline "we remain far apart on terms" and stated Dish was "desperate to retain subscribers".
