Aston Martin reveals F1-rivalling track-only Valkyrie AMR Pro

Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro track car revealed

Set to arrive in 2020, the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro receives more power and additional aerodynamic updates compared to the road auto.

Adrian Newey, the chief technical officer at Red Bull F1 and the brains behind the Valkyrie, says the AMR Pro "offers a level of track performance significantly beyond any previous two seat closed roof auto". The wheels on the Valkyrie AMR Pro have in fact been made smaller than the road car's in order that Aston could squeeze on a set of Michelin racing boots, which are the same specification as those worn on LMP1 endurance racing prototypes. Aston estimates that the top speed of the Valkyrie AMR Pro is close to 250 miles per hour. Moreover, the braking system now features full carbon-carbon racing brakes, and the Rimac-sourced energy recovery system has been re-programmed. The road vehicle will set new benchmarks for performance, engineering and technology - a hypercar in the truest sense - and with the track-only Valkyrie AMR Pro those limits will be pushed further still.

There are much larger front and rear wings for added downforce, as well as some active downforce elements that have been tweaked for a circuit bias. We can't wait to see the real thing.

The AMR Pro runs on wheels of a smaller diameter than the road auto (18 inch front and rear) in order to facilitate the fitment of Michelin racing tyres, which are made to the same specification as those used by LMP1 cars in the World Endurance Championship.

Further weight savings have been made by removing the heater blower and infotainment screens fitted to the road auto and through other ultra-lightweight components such as polycarbonate windscreen and side windows, carbonfibre wishbones and moulded race seats. Glass windows? Ditched for polycarbonate items.

The Valkyrie AMR Pro also gets Formula One-inspired carbon brakes to bring its insane speeds to a halt.

The 25 owners - or "rich lucky bastards", as we like to call them - are also going to gain access to the same training regime as Red Bull Racing drivers, because you can't weigh 220 pounds and expect to get the most out of the AMR Pro. This includes time in the simulator and professional on-track tuition, plus programmes to improve their physical fitness.

CEO Andy Palmer had previously mentioned the Valkyrie would see a 150-unit run capped off by a 25-unit track auto series, but in mid-November the automaker revealed how those track cars would be honed by the Red Bull racing team. The auto itself will have its own dedicated track events for owners to show up and drive.

Just 25 AMR Pro spec cars will be built and all of them have been sold already.
