LiAngelo Ball & Two UCLA Teammates Touch Down In The States

UCLA basketball players arrested in China are headed home

The trio remains in China, even as the rest of the UCLA men's basketball team traveled back to the United States on Saturday.

Three UCLA basketball players who had been detained in China on suspicion of shoplifting admitted on Wednesday that they stole items from three stores, and they thanked U.S. President Donald Trump for his help in winning their release.

Ball, Riley and Hill were allowed to leave China after the situation was "resolved to the satisfaction of the Chinese authorities", said Larry Scott, commissioner of the Pac-12 athletic conference, of which UCLA is a member.

UCLA defeated Georgia Tech 63-60 in what was the season opener for both teams.

The trio were held on suspicion of stealing from a Louis Vuitton store and later freed on bail but ordered to remain in the picturesque Chinese city.

Trump said that Xi is helping out with the case and has been "terrific on that subject" and added that he hopes the players are able to return home soon.

The three basketball players from the University of California, Los Angeles, were detained by police on November 7 in the Chinese city of Hangzhou over allegations of shoplifting.

Trump told reporters that Xi had been helpful in working to resolve the case.

The effort was successful as the three players returned home late Tuesday afternoon, where they may be disciplined by the school as a result of the worldwide scandal. You're talking about very long prison sentences.

"I want to be clear that we take seriously any violations of the law", UCLA Chancellor Gene Block said.

LaVar, LaMelo and Tina Ball - the family's matriarch - all went to China to watch LiAngelo play his first game as a Bruin and promote the opening of a Big Baller Brand pop-up shop in Shanghai.

Since the matter did not occur on the court, it would be up to UCLA whether the players will be punished, Scott said.

In waiting to announce its disciplinary measures for Ball, Hill and Riley, UCLA might be trying to gauge how light a punishment it can get away with meting out.
