New poll indicates unfavorable support ratings for Trump

Special Counsel Robert Mueller departs the Capitol after a closed-door meeting with members of the Senate Judiciary Committee about Russian meddling in the election and possible connection to the Trump campaign in Washington Wednesday

Donald Trump has been in office nearly one year, and his approval rating is "demonstrably lower than any previous chief executive at this point in his presidency over seven decades of polling" says a report on the poll in The Washington Post.

A majority of voters in a new ABC News/Washington Post poll say Donald Trump has achieved little in the first year after his upset win in the 2016 presidential election, yet most think the Democratic Party isn't presenting alternatives. That's a lower number than other president's approval ratings at the same time in their tenures over the course of seven decades of polling, according to the Post.

The disapproval rating of the President has reached 59 percent, and 50 percent said they strongly disapprove of the job he performs. The results have a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 points. Roughly 100 days into his presidency, 42 percent said he had accomplished a great deal or a good amount while in office.

(NATIONAL) - The American public has handed Donald Trump a report card as he nears the end of his first year as resident and it's not a good one. But nearly a year after his surprise victory, even those modest expectations haven't been met as 65 percent say the president has accomplished "not much" or "little or nothing", according to the latest Washington Post/ABC News poll. Less than four in 10 respondents believe he has kept most of his major campaign promises.

As part of the poll, American citizens were asked how satisfied they are with Trump's conduct and achievements.

As Trump begins his five-country trip through Asia, where much of the conversation is expected to center on countering North Korea's nuclear threat, only about a third (32 percent) say they trust him to handle the issue responsibly; 51 percent have no trust in him at all on North Korea and another 16 percent say they trust him "just some". A still larger 95 percent of Clinton voters disapprove of him. But the public gives him little credit for the state of the economy - today, 44 percent give him positive marks, while 53 percent say he has not done well. Trump has said he does not intend to fire Mueller. Manafort and Gates both pleaded not guilty to their charges, while Papadopoulos pleaded guilty to making a false statement to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Slightly more (55 percent) say he is biased against women.
