White House Press Briefing With Sarah Sanders

WASHINGTON-Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said on Monday that indictments made by a special counsel have nothing to do with the White House.

Both the Manafort charges and the Papadopoulos case are part of special counsel Robert Mueller's probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election and whether the Trump campaign colluded with the foreign power to win the election.

Sanders criticized members of the press during the briefing, saying they seemed "obsessed" with the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

Her comments echoed President Trump's tweet earlier in the day in which he called Mr. Papadopoulos "was already proven to be a liar".

Papadopoulos's guilty plea, she said, has nothing to do with the activities of the campaign.

She responded that he was a campaign volunteer who played a minimal role.

By Lalit K Jha Washington, Oct 30 (PTI) The White House today claimed that there is clear evidence that former presidential nominee Hillary Clinton colluded with Russian Federation to spread wrong information about President Donald Trump.

Additionally, Sanders' repetition of the word "volunteer" to show reduced significance rings hollow in light of the fact Manafort also worked on the campaign for free and is now accused of, amongst other things, "conspiracy against the US". In agreeing to the plea, Papadopoulos conceded he lied to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about the timeline of his association with the campaign and an ongoing discussion with a London-based professor who claimed to have "dirt" on Hillary Clinton.

"There are no activities or official capacity in which the Trump campaign was engaged in any of these activities". According to the plea statement, following his July 27, 2017 arrest, Papadopoulos "met with the Government on numerous occasions to provide information and answer questions".

"We do think it will wrap up soon".

Sanders was also asked how she could "describe Papadopoulos as having a limited role when there's a photograph of [him] sitting at a table with then-candidate Trump at a national security meeting". CBS News justice reporter Paula Reid, however, said her sources still maintain that the investigation is not winding down and could in fact take years to be wrapped up.
