Strong Winds & Heavy Rain May Lead to Power Issues

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for portions of the WLNI listening area from 2:00 pm Sunday until 11:00 Monday. Later in the day, average wind speeds should drop down to 10 to 20 miles per hour.

Fierce winds and heavy rain downed trees and knocked out power across the U.S. Northeast, halting trains during the Monday morning commute and leaving neighborhoods from Boston to Washington in the dark.

The weather service also expects some damage to trees and power lines, thus anticipating power outages scattered across the area.

A Flood Watch is in effect for the area with heavy rain, high winds and embedded thunderstorms in the forecast.

Rapid intensification of the low pressure system is ongoing near New York City, and it is expected to continue to rapidly intensify as it moves into the Hudson Valley overnight.

Utility crews are working to restore power outages to thousands of homes and business - as heavy rains and driving winds rip through the midstate.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Colder air moves in Monday with temps hitting a high in the 50s early, then falling into the 40s by the afternoon.

And Sunday should be mostly cloudy with a high near 60.
