Senate to examine financial records of firm behind notorious Trump-Russia dossier

WH Trump Administration Has No Involvement With Puerto Rico Power Contract

Republican lawmakers on Tuesday launched investigations to examine several of President Donald Trump's longstanding political grievances, including the FBI probe of Hillary Clinton's emails and her alleged role in a sale of USA uranium to a Russian firm.

The President fired off a series of furious tweets on Sunday, insisting the real story was alleged links between Russian Federation and Mrs Clinton, tweeting to his 41 million followers that the "facts are pouring out".

The tweets came as CNN, citing "sources briefed on the matter", has continued to report that a federal grand jury in Washington on Friday approved the first charges in the investigation led by special counsel Robert Mueller. Sitting next to Podesta was his attorney Marc Elias, who worked for the law firm that brokered funding, CNN reported.

Republicans in Congress also are investigating whether officials in former President Barack Obama's administration spied on Trump's campaign and whether Russians helped pay for a dossier on Trump commissioned by Fusion GPS, an opposition research firm.

"There is so much GUILT by Democrats/Clinton", Trump alleged, "and now the facts are pouring out".

"Never seen such Republican ANGER & UNITY as I have concerning the lack of investigation on Clinton made Fake Dossier (now $12,000,000?), the Uranium to Russian Federation deal, the 33,000 plus deleted Emails, the Comey fix and so much more", Trump wrote.

The investigation that turned up a dossier allegedly linking Donald Trump to Russian Federation began at the behest of a conservative website owned by a supporter of Marco Rubio, it has emerged.

Trump also tweeted Sunday about Clinton's involvement in what he called the "Uranium to Russian Federation deal", demanding that the matter receive greater scrutiny. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, said Trump had been "too defensive" about Mueller's inquiry.

The Washington Free Beacon says it hired intelligence firm Fusion GPS during the 2016 Republican presidential primary.

In a complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Washington Monday obtained by the Law Newz website, Fusion's GPS's lawyer, Josh Levy, alleges that members of the committee had leaked information from the investigation.

Fusion then hired British intelligence officer Christopher Steele to unearth Trump's skeletons. "DO SOMETHING!", Trump also said.

"So I'm going to continue to do that", she said.

"These investigations were initiated on a partisan basis, and will shed no light on Russia's interference in the 2016 election, but then again they are not meant to do so", Representative Adam Schiff, the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, said Tuesday in a statement.

Collins, who sits on the Senate Intelligence Committee, said the committee is trying to determine whether there was any collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government.

At the same time, the House Oversight Committee has launched a probe into the Clinton email investigation that will examine, among other things, why Comey publicly announced that the bureau was investigating Clinton but then waited months before making a similar announcement about its inquiries into the Trump campaign.

The Republican leaders of the House intelligence and oversight committees on Tuesday announced another new probe, this one into an Obama-era deal in which a Russian company bought a Canadian firm that owned some 20 percent of US uranium supplies. The New York Times has not confirmed that charges have been approved.
