Ford recalling 1 million trucks over doors that could open while driving

2017 Ford F-150

Ford estimates that repairs will cost $267 million.

Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries associated with this issue.

Of the 1,344,605 vehicles affected in North America, just over 1.1 million are in the United States, with 222,408 located in Canada and another 21,000 in Mexico.

Ford said that in certain 2015 to 2017 F-150 and 2017 Super Duty vehicles "a frozen door latch or a bent or kinked actuation cable may result in a door that will not open or will not close". If a person is able to open and close the door regardless of these conditions, the door may not latch properly and could pop open while driving, "increasing the risk of injury".

The affected models include some of the model year 2015, 2016 and 2017 F-150's, as well as some 2017 Super Duty pickups.

In an effort to remedy the problem, Ford dealerships will be instructed to inspect the door latches and actuation cables.

The F-150 pickup has consistently been the best selling vehicle in the country for decades.

Ford's stock traded higher at the time the announcement was made.

Last September, Ford recalled 211,000 cars in North America due to a problem with side door latches that that the company said is unrelated to this recall, CNBC reported.

Although the F-Series roots are as a work truck, Ford has been pushing the vehicle line upscale.
