Mobile Limiting High-Speed Data in Canada, Mexico to 5GB

T-Mobile

- John Legere, CEO of T-Mobile in 2015.

This meant that using your phone or making a call in Canada, Mexico, and the US would be "just like going out of state", T-Mobile CEO John Legere said at the time.

T-Mobile has announced its latest Uncarrier initiative which is called "Mobile without Borders", the company is doing away with extra call charges across North America.

T-Mobile said that this move had been made "in order to prevent usage beyond the intent of the product", and noted that "less than one percent of people with this benefit travel to Mexico and Canada use over 5 GB a month". After that, they'll be switched over to "Simple Global speeds" aka, their data will be throttled. One of those options was the Mobile Without Borders plan that provided unlimited LTE data when customers traveled to Canada or Mexico.

When the new cap kicks in, some customers traveling to Canada and Mexico might want to know how they're doing with their data. It's not unlimited LTE but it appears subscribers have been consuming large amounts. After burning through 5GB, your speeds will drop to just 128kbps (or 256kbps if you have a T-Mobile One Plus plan). T-Mobile is known to give the North American customers complete access to LTE beyond their nation's borders.

The change comes into effect on November 12, 2017, and hits customers on T-Mobile One, One Plus, Simple Choice, and legacy rate plans. Either way, T-Mobile says that less than 1 percent of users who travel to either country use over 5GB in a month.

T-Mobile not only has one of the best prices of all carriers, it has some great benefits to plans as well.

If you have any more queries on the change and how it will reflect on your mobile usage, you can check the dedicated T-Mobile FAQ page to get all the answers.
