Canada manufacturing growth edges up in Sept, prices climb

The Markit CIPS UK Manufacturing purchasing managers’ index for August was released on Monday

The latest IHS Markit/CIPS Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) posted a figure of 55.9 in September 2017, as expansion in the United Kingdom manufacturing sector continues.

This was revealed on October 2 by the latest survey from Nikkei's IHS Markit.

The headline Markit Poland Manufacturing PMI is a composite single-figure indicator of manufacturing performance.

September marked the 12th straight month of expansion for the manufacturing sector - the longest run of expansion since 2007.

Rob Dobson, a director at IHS Markit, said: "The latest PMI survey showed a modest deceleration in the rates of expansion in United Kingdom manufacturing production and new orders".

The Australian PMI® is now leading the ABS manufacturing output data by about three months.

In September, all eight manufacturing sub-sectors expanded, led by the non-metallic mineral products sub-sector (mainly building materials) which hit a record high.

"I still expect Philippine manufacturing to grow in 2017, especially as more and more investments are anticipated from the government's thrust of increasing infrastructure spending plus the impact of further tax reform when corporate taxes are eventually adjusted to be comparable regionally", added Mr. Dumalagan. Some panellists also mentioned that staff shortages contributed to the build-up of outstanding business. Moreover, the rate of job creation quickened to a six-month high, according to the report.

"This appears to be reflected in the latest PMI, which, while moderately below August's result, still shows UK Manufacturing to be performing strongly". Conversely, stocks of finished goods rose during the month.

Production input costs rose at their fastest pace in five months, the report read. That said, the rate of inflation slowed to the weakest since May and was modest.

However, business optimism remains up and encouraged companies to step up purchasing activity in view of future higher sales. The rate of expansion was solid, and the fastest since April. BlackRock Inc. now owns 20,763,308 shares of the business services provider's stock worth $914,415,000 after purchasing an additional 10,593,627 shares in the last quarter. Delivery times shortened for the first time in seven months during September, albeit fractionally.
