Ryanair passengers who re-booked flights pay again for extras

Ryanair cancelled flights list UK Stansted

The UK union is urging the airline to "do more to encourage pilots to stay with the airline, following news of its pilot holiday chaos" and to foster a "more attractive place for people to build their career".

Ryanair is facing a bill of up to €20m for passengers left stranded and forced to re-book.

Ryanair offered captains a one-off, tax-free payment of £12,000 or 12,000 euros, according to a Financial Times report, and first officers £6,000 or 6,000 euros.

Ryanair Chief Executive Michael O'Leary said last week his firm was finalizing a bid to buy Alitalia.

However, the bonus is not applicable to pilots who have resigned and are working their notice prior to 31 October 2018, nor will it be offered to pilots with more than four unauthorised absences during this period.

O'Leary later insisted there were no problems between the company and the pilots and that if they misbehave "that will be the end of the goodies".

Norwegian went the extra step of identifying that it had recruited 140 pilots from Ryanair this year alone prompting Ryanair CEO to make a weird retaliatory claim that Norwegian had not recruited 140 of Ryanair's pilots and that Ryanair thought Norwegian didn't have the resources to "last the year".

If Ryanair is found to have violated consumer rights, it could face a significant fine.

Ryanair are hoping to prevent further flight cancellations by taking back one week of its pilots' holiday, but they can't guarantee more disruption. "It seems clear that Ryanair has failed to plan properly for the implementation of the regulations".

He also said the airline is considering forcing 500 pilots to change their holiday plans to avoid risking additional flight delays.

Ryanair said all 315,000 customers affected by the cancellations received an email on Monday advising them of their flight changes and offering alternative flights and refunds.

Over the past few days, several have said to me how unhappy and disrespected they feel at work, yet they've never had a unified voice to bargain for a better deal.

Separately, some Ryanair pilots have spoken to the BBC about a "toxic" atmosphere and how they felt "undervalued".

O'Leary claimed that this move had not caused the current crisis.
