Clashes Between Residents, Police Erupt in S Korea Over THAAD Deployment

North Korea nuclear hell in four minutes

The US Forces Korea will reportedly position the launchers at a new base in Seongju, some 300 kilometres south of Seoul, on Thursday.

President Moon Jae-in ordered the deployment of additional THAAD launchers soon after Pyongyang launched a second intercontinental ballistic missile in late July.

The first announced deal was that South Korea will temporarily allow the United States to deploy four additional THAAD missile defense systems in the country.

President Moon ordered officials to consult with the US on the temporary deployment of the four additional THAAD launchers, following the North's launch of a Hwasong-14 intercontinental ballistic missile on July 28th.

The ministry noted that six launchers will give the USA a full THAAD battery, meaning it will have a much better chance of detecting and shooting down missiles from the North. The camp already has two operational launchers. The protesters said the deployment will begin at 2 a.m. Thursday, but the Defense Ministry refused to confirm the time.

North Korea says it detonated a hydrogen bomb in its sixth nuclear test on Sunday.

The leaders of Russian Federation and South Korea have condemned North Korea over its latest nuclear test, but still appear far apart on the issue of stepping up sanctions against Pyongyang.

The readout was released shortly before Trump was to speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping, whose opinion is critical for getting the apply tighter sanctions on North Korea, including possibly restricting China's oil sales to its unpredictable neighbor.

We will remind, the first THAAD was deployed in South Korea in may this year.

South Korean local residents are protesting against the US THAAD deployment missile systems. He said it "offers a genuine way to defuse the tensions and a step-by-step settlement".
