Scaramucci on Trump Charlottesville statement: The president "needed to be much harsher"

Scaramucci criticizes Trump's reaction to Charlottesville violence

It's his decision. But I mean, at the end of the day, I think the president has a very good idea of who the leakers are inside the White House. And if he doesn't do that, you're going to see this inertia and you're going to see this resistance from more of the establishment senators that he needs to curry favor with.

Trump fired Scaramucci, a wealthy NY financier, on July 31, just days after naming him as communications director.

Like many others, Scaramucci told host George Stephanopoulos that he disagreed with Trump's weak and freakish statement on the outbreak of white supremacist violence over the weekend in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci said President Donald Trump needed to more explicitly condemn white supremacists and neo-Nazis.

Scaramucci spoke to ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos on ABC News' "This Week" today in his first television interview since his whirlwind 11-day stint in the White House.

Breitbart has close ties with the alt-right movement, an ideology that can be associated with white nationalism.

Trump is very well aware of these elements, and he knows what to do with them, Scaramucci noted.

"I think there are elements inside of Washington, also inclusive in the White House, that are not necessarily abetting the president's interests or his agenda".

He added that it's not serving the President's interests to still have that wing around.

Scaramucci blasted Bannon in an oft-quoted New Yorker interview that featured the man known as "the Mooch" uttering blue language.

Trump fielded bipartisan criticism on Saturday when he suggested that "many sides" were to blame for the violence at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, which ended in a vehicle plowing into a group of described "anti-racist" protesters - killing one person and injuring 19 others.

On Sunday afternoon, the White House condemned "white supremacists" for the violence in Charlottesville.

But I think its important for the people around him, George, to give him direct advice.

"It was going to be very hard for me to stay in the job, given the fact the Gen. Kelly took over and so I respect Gen. Kelly", he added.

"But you didn't ask for it to be off the record", Stephanopoulos said.

Scaramucci went on to criticise Trump's chief strategist, Stephen K. Bannon, saying the president has to "move away from that sort of Bannon-bart nonsense".
