Captain Kohli credits Dhawan, Mukund for win vs Sri Lanka

Doubts? Not anymore

Galle: Sri Lanka pacer Nuwan Pradeep has expressed delight at taking the prized scalp of Indian captain Virat Kohli after bagging his maiden five wicket haul in Tests on day two of the series-opener.

Actually, team India is on a tour to Sri Lanka, and Virat Kohli and boys on Saturday scored an impressive victory in the Test Match played at the city of Galle, also known for its handsome beaches.

The hosts, chasing 550 runs for victory, only managed 245 before their second innings folded in the final session, after opening batsman Dimuth Karunaratne had been dismissed for 97.

Herath, who bowled just nine overs in India's second innings and didn't bat on Saturday, was hopeful without being certain that he would play the second Test.

India started the day with a healthy 498-run advantage and quickly set about adding to it as Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane (23no) took their fourth-wicket stand past 50.

"We have to see how he is going to come up in the next couple of days because his finger is pretty sore", Gurusinha said of Herath's condition. His second innings was marginally better than the first as he got a start before succumbing leg before to Trent Boult for 17 runs. With his replacement Abhinav Mukund scoring 81 in the 2nd innings, Kohli described the selection issue as "massive headache".

India lost its first wicket on 19 when Dilruwan Perera had Shikhar Dhawan, who scored 190 in the first innings, caught by Danushka Gunathilaka for 14.

He would last just ten deliveries in the first innings before being bowled for just one run by pacer Matt Henry. That said, the 76-run partnership did keep the Indians at bay at a time when it looked like Kohli's men had the knife on Sri Lanka's throat.

India's win helped them extend their lead at the top of the ICC's Test rankings and they could grab a lead of up to 15 rankings points if results go their way over the coming weeks. But obviously you can not guarantee anything, ? he added.

Kohli has tasted success as captain especially in the longest format and his troops are carrying the same form in Sri Lanka as well.

Kohli felt that though his team came up with a "clinical performance" in the first Test there was still room for improvement. I am very happy to have got him out like that. I wanted to play with legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag, and many of them were part of that Indian team. "All credit to India, they outplayed us. we want to improve with the batting, bowling and fielding".
