Get on with bipartisan effort to revamp U.S. health care | Letters

Medicare for All

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) was meant to improve access to health care for all Americans by expanding insurance coverage. If the motion is successful, it is unclear at this time what the Senate substitute bill would be.

It's inconceivable that any of our nation's leaders think our health care system will be improved by ripping away health care from 22 million Americans and vastly increasing the costs for millions more. The health of our country is falling behind.

Called "Health Care Voter", the campaign will kick off Saturday, where attendees at more than 125 protests will be asked to fill out cards pledging to cast their ballots based on how their lawmakers vote on rolling back Obamacare.

One version also includes an amendment from Sen.

But now that the procedural hurdle has been passed, the broader health bills that will (reportedly) be considered in the coming days, in the form of "amendments" that would supplant the basic legislative vehicle the Senate used to begin official debate Tuesday, face an uncertain future.

The president and his party control all three branches of the national government, plus the majority of most state governments they do own the problems of health care along with many more problems regardless of whether they want to or not. That's a far cry from the far-reaching American Health Care Act passed by the more conservative House of Representatives earlier this year, which would gut numerous Obamacare protections and massively scale back the Medicaid program for the poor and disabled, as well as from the BCRA. Toomey was part of a GOP group that worked on a Senate Republican proposal, which would repeal parts of Obamacare's taxes and requirements as well as dramatically change how Medicaid is funded and slow its growth.

And even if the repeal effort fails, progressives hope to use the GOP's effort to underscore the stakes of the midterms after two previous cycles - 2010 and 2014 - that many Democratic voters sat out.

Senators Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of ME, who has consistently opposed the GOP efforts, were the only Republican Senators to oppose the motion in addition to all Democrats.
