Jammu and Kashmir on High Alert, Manhunt Launched for Amarnath Attack Mastermind

Amarnath Yatra Terror Attack

Seven Hindu pilgrims, a lot of them women, were killed in a gunbattle that erupted in Indian Kashmir on Monday following two militant attacks on police, stoking outrage and protests nationwide. In a press release issued by Press Secretary Sean Spicer, the White House said India and the United States will continue to fight terrorists in every part of the world.

The United States "strongly condemns the cowardly terrorist attack" on religious pilgrims in the state of Jammu and Kashmir on July 10, he said.

"What has come out of this tragic incident is that people of the State and rest of India have started thinking in unison by rejecting such acts and categorisation of the human tragedies". Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Singh said, was personally monitoring the situation and has arranged help for the victims of the attack.

"This was when the word spread that there was a Yatra bus and terrorists targeted it at Batingu, around 12 kms from the point of breakdown", said home ministry officials giving details of a report sent from the Jammu and Kashmir police. "That's of great concern to us", she told reporters at a news conference.

"The local police has reportedly held Lashkar terrorist Abu Ismail responsible for carrying out the attack with the assistance of local Hizbul Mujahideen cadre".

"The terrorist attack on AmarnathYatra is reprehensible and must be condemned", tweeted Congressman Ted Poe.

The UK's acting High Commissioner to India, Alexander Evans, also condemned the attack. "The terrorists need to succeed only once", Mr. Madhav said.

Escorted by CRPF and police personnel, 3,289 pilgrims, comprising 2,283 men, 756 women and 250 sadhus and sadhvis, left in 68 vehicles in a convoy from Jammu for Baltal and Pahalgam base camps on Tuesday morning, officials said. We convey our condolences to the families of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to the injured. It also extended its "deepest" condolences to the families and "all those affected".

The Embassy of Iran said in a release that it "condemns in the strongest possible words the Monday night terror attack on the Amarnath pilgrims".
