Splatoon 2 gets companion app through Nintendo Switch Online

Watch today's 'Splatoon 2' Nintendo Direct live stream right here

The Nintendo Switch Online app will allow users to invite other players with the same game via an iPhone (and presumably other smartphones and mobile devices), and will also include built-in voice chat functionality for at least some games.

That's 6 pm to 10 pm EDT, or 11 pm to 3 am BST. You can join in by downloading the title's free demo in the eShop. Just remember: Cake\u0027s a mistake, cream\u0027s the dream.

Splatfest, a periodic event established in Splatoon, is an epic four-on-four battle. A Splatfest Battle is a time-limited Turf War battle to see who reigns supreme. As with the original Splatoon, the company announced it is planning to support the game with free content, such as new stages, weapons, and other gear, for a full year following its release. And following today's Splatoon 2-themed Nintendo Direct, we now have a better idea of how the app will work, and some of the added value it might bring.

On release day though there still will be the Splatoon 2 Pro Controller available and a Splatoon 2 Nintendo Switch case.

Thanks to the Nintendo Switch Online app, players will be able to take Nintendo wherever they go.

Splatoon 2 will have its own dedicated part of this application, SplatNet2. You'll need to download the free demo of the game in advance, but you'll be able to play on the 15th July 2017, nearly a week before it's out on the full launch on the 21st. But while Switch owners bid their time for that date, Nintendo will at least be giving them a foretaste by making the Nintendo Switch Online app available in two weeks, right in time for Splatoon 2's launch. Each Salmon Run game lasts three waves, with players having to collect a certain number of eggs each match, and the map gets smaller each wave.
