Prasad joins list of applicants for India Head Coach

Ganguly is one of the three members of the CAC alongside Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman

Earlier in the day, reports of Prasad throwing his hat in the ring increased the decibel level as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) continue to wait for more entrants to select Team India's new head coach after Anil Kumble's acrimonious exit.

It has also been revealed that when Committee of Administration (CoA) came to know about the team being unhappy with Kumble, a general manager of the Board approached Virender Sehwag to apply for the job. Days after the news of Ravi Shastri applying for the job came out, now former Indian fast bowler and junior national chief selector, Venkatesh Prasad, has applied for the post of team India coach, according to a report by Times of India.

Reported Firstpost, Prasad said, "I have made my intentions clear that I am very, very keen to perform the role of an assistant coach or a bowling coach". He said, "May be I will write, but this is what I am very keen about (the support staff job)". Alongside him, Tom Moody and former Indian opener Virender Sehwag are two other big contenders. However, I am very much keen to contribute to Indian cricket as an assistant coach or a bowling coach.

Everyone who matters in the BCCI seems to have a candidate of his own but if the old guard has its way, former India cricketer Ravi Shastri could get the job.

Shastri, back then stated that he is going to apply for the post only if he is definitely granted with the position.

Prasad, who played 33 Tests and 162 ODIs for India is now serving as the junior India chief selector but his tenure is about to end in September this year. It is, however, mysterious that CoA head Vinod Rai didn't attend the meeting after the Champions Trophy final between Virat Kohli and Anil Kumble, which turned out to be unpleasant in the end.

An alleged rift between the two powerhouses of Indian cricket, Kumble and captain Kohli, was a major tabloid news for the most part of the last month.

The BCCI had extended the deadline to apply for the post of head coach till July 9.
