Senate health care status: No bill yet

Women's healthcare

The fear is that the Senate leadership could wait for the CBO report, then immediately bring the bill to the floor for a vote before senators or anyone else had time to gauge its effect on health coverage for millions of Americans. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., and comes with ticket prices ranging from $250 to $2,500. The GOP's majority in the Senate is razor thin - at 52 to 48.

Senate Democrats say they're hatching a strategy to put more focus on Republican health-care legislation that polls have shown is unpopular with the public. Voters are increasingly less likely to trust Republicans on health care, and independent voters have been embracing Obamacare.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is "bound and determined" to hold a vote on the legislation soon, but there are still a lot of obstacles in the way.

For the last two months, congressional Republicans have demonstrated hypocrisy of the highest order concerning health care legislation.

Pressed on the lack of committee hearings or input by a reporter, he described the Senate GOP working group as "a committee of the whole". He's hoping to get the measure through the Senate before Congress' Fourth of July recess.

The summer recess, set to run from July 29 through September 5, will be an important opportunity for opponents of President Trump and GOP policies - what has come to be known colloquially as "the resistance" - to render their dissatisfaction in person to Republican lawmakers at town halls, office hours and other in-district events.

"I don't know about shutting the Senate down".

Repealing the Affordable Care Act and replacing it with the Republican plan isn't a solution, it's an assault on women and the beginnings of a serious national healthcare crisis. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska; Jeff Flake of Arizona; Susan Collins of Maine; Dean Heller of Nevada; and Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia.

Democrats are weighing a strategy to get more public attention on the debate in the next two weeks, said Matt House, spokesman for Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of NY, but he declined to discuss details.

A spokesman told CNN that Portman remains opposed to dropping the growth rate below the level of the House bill, which already would reduce spending on the program by $800 billion over 10 years, and several other more moderate members of the conference have voiced concern over the idea. McConnell is trying to keep the pressure off the many Republican senators who have offered pledges of varying degrees of specificity to protect Medicaid and other aspects of the ACA that benefit their constituents. The plan has not been made public!

The aide added that Democrats would also initiate parliamentary procedures "to highlight the difference between the open process used to pass the Affordable Care Act and the process Republicans are pursuing now". "We think it's critical that Americans across the country understand what's at stake for them and their families if the U.S. Senate passes this bill".
