Megyn Kelly Vs. Alex Jones: 3.5 Million Watched

And that had been a steep slide from the 6.1 million who tuned in for her NBC premiere, when she had interviewed Russian ruler Vladimir Putin.

Kelly said Jones never completely disavowed his previous statements about the killings being a hoax.

Long-running CBS newsmagazine "60 Minutes" easily beat out the former Fox New anchor with 5.3 million viewers, even though the story selection was hardly at attention-grabbing - the program ran stories on first responders in war-torn Syria, chess-playing teens in rural MS and how small, cash-starved countries are effectively selling citizenship for revenue. Members of that community, where 20 children and six educators were killed, were among the voices raised against NBC airing the interview.

"Megyn Kelly Presses Alex Jones on Conspiracy Theories in Edited NBC Interview", read the initial New York Times headline on the interview, still visible in a tweet.

Thanks to a strong showing by Celebrity Family Feud and Steve Harvey's Funderdome (1.4 and 1.0, respectively), ABC won the night in the 18-49 demo (1.0 rating) and viewers (4.9 million), Nielsen says.

NBC noted Kelly's radioactive interview, which had been a top media story for days, outdelivered CBS's 60 Minutes rerun in the demo.

Kelly's episode was walloped in the ratings race by a re-run of 60 Minutes, which netted 5.3 million viewers, and trounced in the prized 18-49 demo by a re-run of America's Funniest Home Videos, per CNN.

Connecticut's NBC affiliate did not air Sunday's report and lawyers representing 12 people who lost loved ones at Sandy Hook urged NBC News officials not to air the interview.

Kelly, now with NBC, told A.P. she respected Sandy Hook Promise's decision to drop her from a Wednesday event in Washington, but was disappointed. Jones has said he believes that the shooting was a government hoax that used child actors.

A parent of one of the victims also spoke out. But who are the Sandy Hook families that they feel they have the right to restrict what any media outlet chooses to air? Jones, meanwhile, did all he could to taint the piece in advance, surreptitiously taping their conversations and releasing them prior to the broadcast.
