Ruthless Kidambi Srikanth whips Kazumasa Sakai to win Indonesian Open

KIDAMBI SRIKANTH clinches the Indonesia Super Series Premier men's singles title after a comfortable win over Kazumasa Sakai 21-11, 21-19. Son looked risky when he came close 10-12 from 6-11 but failed to take the advantage. Soon, the Japanese was leading 7-3 as he entered the break with an 11-6 lead with the help of a backhand return near the net.After the interval, Srikanth's aggressive game gave him the desired results.

But Son didn't flinch and kept rallying hard till the end to find crucial points. Even though, Srikanth narrowed the deficit down to 18-20, Son managed to win the game on a lucky net cord. While Srikanth banged a smash at the net, Son erred in hitting long.

World No 22 Srikanth, who had reached the finals at Singapore Open in April, outclassed Sakai, ranked 47th, 21-11, 21-19 in just 37 minutes to take home a cheque of $75,000.

In the third game, Sakai moved to a 6-4 lead early on and held on to the lead all through the game to emerge victor.

The latter denied a second Indian a place in the showpiece game by beating Prannoy Kumar 17-21, 28-26, 21-16 in an epic clash.
