Escaped Georgia inmates captured in Tennessee

Search for escaped inmates expanding as it enters third day

According to a report from The Atlanta Journal Constitution, Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Vernan Keenan said the fugitives committed a home invasion of an elderly couple and then took their auto.

Authorities had offered a $130,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Donnie Russell Rowe and Ricky Dubose.

Det. Sgt. Dan Goodwin of the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office said at around 6 p.m., officers spotted a vehicle wanted in a carjacking in Shelbyville, Tennessee.

In Moore County, the men are said to have stolen another vehicle before police say they forced their way into an elderly couple's home at gunpoint on Kingree Road.

"With the assistance of our law enforcement partners in Tennessee, unsafe fugitives were captured and taken into custody", Deal said.

The sheriff of Putnam County, Georgia, admitted that a pair of inmates who escaped custody after they were accused of killing two correctional officers earlier this week had a 13-hour head start on authorities after they allegedly stole a white pickup truck and switched vehicles before authorities realized it.

Rowe and Dubose had occasionally shared a prison cell; they left more than two dozen other inmates behind in handcuffs when they fled the bus.

Sills described the fugitives as violent repeat offenders and extremely risky, having taken the guards' 9 mm pistols. There the two apparently stole a auto, which they drove to a house in Bedford County. The pain endured by the families and loved ones of Sergeant Christopher Monica and Sergeant Curtis Billue endures, however.

Sills, a sheriff in Putnam County for three decades, sent a personal message during the conference to the escapees: "You need to surrender".

Funeral arrangements have been made for one of two prison guards killed when two Georgia inmates escaped from a prison transfer bus this week.

The FBI rolled out "a significant media effort", including "a nationwide billboard campaign" to try to catch the fugitives, according to David LeValley, who runs the FBI office in Atlanta.

Monica, 42, a sergeant, worked for the department for nearly eight years and leaves a wife. Sgt. Billue leaves behind two sisters, five brothers, a father and some children.

Dubose and Rowe both have extensive criminal histories.

After killing the guards and fleeing the prison bus, Rowe and Dubose carjacked a driver who had pulled up behind the bus. Many law enforcement officers from local, state and federal agencies are hunting for them.
