Two Georgia inmates remain on run after two prison guards killed

The Georgia Department of Corrections released the names of the fallen officers.

Donnie Russell Rowe (on Right) and Ricky Dubose (on Left) are the suspects.

A Georgia sheriff says authorities still don't know the whereabouts of two escaped Georgia inmates accused of killing two prison guards.

The Oconee County Sheriff's Office also posted a letter to the inmates on their Facebook page. This photo provided by the Elbert County Sheriff's Office taken on October 13, 2015 shows inmate Ricky Dubose.

Police and law enforcement officials from throughout the Southeast continue to search for two escaped inmates accused of shooting and killing two corrections officers in Putnam County on Tuesday morning. Authorities in Georgia have released another photo of Dubose, showing prominent tattoos.

Officials with the Putnam Sheriff's Office say, about 30 inmates were aboard a prison bus when two of the inmates disarmed and overpowered both Baldwin State Prison Correction officers before fatally shooting them.

Sills was emotional as he described the scene. Residents are warned not to approach them, but if they are seen, to call 911 immediately.

Since the murders, the two inmates have been on the run. "They're not concerned with anything regarding human life". By the time help arrived, they had vanished. Sills says they took some food and likely some clothes and left their prison uniforms behind.

Authorities put up roadblocks, only to discover Wednesday morning that the pickup had been stolen, from a site about 9 miles away from the burglary. He said they should be considered armed and extremely risky. The escapees could be headed anywhere, Sills said.

Rowe, a repeat offender now serving life without parole, was imprisoned after being convicted on charges of armed robbery and aggravated assault. The Department of Corrections said Rowe, 43, has been serving life without parole since 2002, and Dubose, 24, began a 20-year sentence in 2015.

Monica, 42, and Billue, 58, were transporting the inmates from Hancock State Prison, in adjacent Hancock County, to the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison, some 45 miles west of Eatonton, Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Greg Dozier said.

Two Georgia inmates serving long prison sentences and who authorities say are "dangerous beyond description" overpowered and killed two guards on a prison bus before fleeing in a stolen vehicle.

How the two inmates managed to reach and overpower them is a matter for the Corrections Department to investigate, said Sills, insisting that he's focused on bringing the fugitives to justice. Police have not said said if they believe the fugitives are still with the Honda or if it has been located.

The slain guards were identified as Sgt. Christopher Monica and Sgt. Curtis Billue, both transfer sergeants at Baldwin State Prison.

Dozier said both officers leave behind families and described them as "great officers".

According to the GBI, a $60,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the inmates' arrest.
