Members of Wisconsin's Congressional delegation are reacting to a shooting in Alexandria, VA Wednesday morning that injured House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and four others.

The victims included a member of congressional staff and two police officers, according to witness accounts from some of the approximately 25 Republican lawmakers present at the baseball practice. His wounds were not believed to be life-threatening.

"I ask that each of you join me in praying for my good friend, Steve Scalise, and the staff and Capitol police who were injured". Scalise's office released a statement that said he is "undergoing surgery" and "in stable condition". "He is grateful for the fearless actions of the U.S. Capitol Police, first responders, and colleagues".

Kentucky Sen. Randding to both congressional and law enforcement sources, the shooting appears to be a "deliberate attack".

Capitol Police officers at the event responded and engaged the suspect in gunfire, Verderosa said. The senator said he was "sickened" by the shooting and condemned the violence. Scalise has represented Louisiana's 1st District since 2008.

Five people, including the suspect, were transported to a hospital, Alexandria Police Chief Michael Brown said during a news conference Wednesday.

Congressman Ron DeSantis, who left just before the shooting, said as he walked to his auto, a man asked him if it was Republicans or Democrats practicing.
