Summer Reading Program registration underway

City of Troy Keeping Kids Active During the Summer

Each young reader that signs up receives a summer reading packet which includes a reader's log, coupons, as well as a passport to encourage readers to visit all village merchants for a prize.

Registration for the summer programs began this week and will be available until Sat., July 1.

Regular meeting time throughout the summer will be from 2 p.m.to 2:45 p.m. each Wednesday from June 7 through August 9.

Once again, participants will be able to use "Beanstack", the BCLS online tracking system, to log their reading progress, explore books lists, and access activity guides customized for each age group and created to encourage learning, curiosity and fun.

For its 17th annual edition, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh's biggest event of the year invites bookworms of all ages to enjoy a free festival packed with imaginative crafts, games, storytelling, food trucks, music, and more.

No registration is required. Programs for the summer will range from "Nature's Architects" presented by Forest Park Nature Center to a series of hands-on "In the Style of" art workshops. Offering the program online means that you can participate even if you can't make it to the library or if you are away on summer vacation.

"What we want the children to do is not only read the book, but to share what they've learned, to share the experience, what did they discover". Mondays will be Movie Mondays at 2 p.m., Tuesdays will be preschool storytime at 10:30 a.m. and Thursdays will be Construction Corners.

Summer reading fun isn't just for children.

Kids age 11 and under who register for their Beanstack accounts through the BCLS website and track their progress will earn virtual badges for reaching each reading milestone.
