AMD releases 'Radeon Pro 500' Series graphics for iMac

The iMac now comes with Thunderbolt 3 ports, and the entry-level 21.5-inch model now has a Retina 4K display. The upgraded variants of the iMac powerful desktop are created to offer improved performance. The top-end model, the Radeon Pro 580, promises 5.5 trillion floating-point operations per second (T/FLOPS) of compute performance in a thermal envelope AMD claims is perfectly suited to the iMac's slim all-in-one design.

As for pricing and availability, the new updated iMac models will be made available for order in the U.S. starting Monday via company's official online store, apple.com, and will be made available for purchase in the United States starting Wednesday via Apple Stores. Pricing starts at $1,100 for the 21.5-inch model and $1,800 for the 27-inch 5K iMacs (same as before).

The 13-inch MacBook Pro packs a Kaby Lake processor with up to 3.5GHz Core i7 with Turbo Boost up to 4.0GHz, and the updated 15-inch MacBook Pro will be fueled by up to 3.1GHz Core i7 with Turbo Boost up to 4.1GHz. The I/O upgrade involves two USB-C connectors that support Thunderbolt 3.

Apple also updated the storage, giving the standard Macbook a "newer generation" PCIe SSD as well as added 16GB DDR3 memory option to its 15-inch MacBook Pro. All of the new machines go on sale today. The iMac Pro is designed and architected especially for high-end professional creatives.

Slated for December, the iMac Pro's specifications start at an eight core Intel Xeon processor, 32GB of ECC memory, a 1TB solid state drive and a graphics card featuring AMD's upcoming Vega architecture; a 27in Retina display running a 5K resolution tops off the spec list. "For Apple to achieve the title of "World's Thinnest Notebook" they had to compromise on performance and expansion slots". Further, the iMac Pro features a stunning new space grey enclosure that allows incredible performance for virtual reality content creation, advanced graphics editing, and real-time 3D rendering.
