Nebraska Girl Banned From Soccer Tournament Because She "Looks Like A Boy"

Nebraska Girl Banned From Soccer Tournament Because She

"When my hair starts to grow, I put it short because I always had short hair, so I didn't like my hair long", she explained.

Reports emerged on Monday that an 8-year-old girl in Nebraska was caught in the crossfire at a local youth tournament. She's so good that she plays on the 11-year-old roster even though she's 8.

"It's what she likes".

She helped her team reach the finals over the weekend at the Springfield Soccer Club girls tournament, but Mili and her teammates were abruptly disqualified Sunday before taking the field.

So sure was this league president that he not only kicked Mili out of the tournament, but he disqualified her entire team.

"I told her people makes mistakes", he said. Mili's family claims they went so far as to show her insurance card to tournament organizers - proving Mili is indeed a girl.

How terrible. To make matters worse, Mili's family tried to prove her gender by showing her insurance card.

Mili's dad, Gerardo Hernandez, tells WOWT 6 News the incident left his daughter crying and "in shock". He said her full first name is Milagros and that Mili is a nickname she's had since she was a baby.

Springfield Soccer Club organizers refused to be interviewed by WOWT, and referred to the news station to their lawyer.

"They didn't want to listen". The officials also disqualified her team.

Her parents can appeal the decision with the Nebraska State Soccer Association. She loves soccer and her short haircut.

"There's other tournaments that I can play", she said. "She was crying. They made her cry", Hernandez said. But another form listed her as a girl - and she was playing on an all girls team and is, in fact, a girl - so he thought the problem would be easily straightened out.
