Car runs into London Bridge pedestrians; multiple injuries

Officers responded around 10 p.m. local time to reports of a vehicle collision involving pedestrians on the London Bridge, police said.

SEVEN people have been reportedly killed and as many as 20 injured after terrorists mowed down pedestrians on London Bridge and then went on a stabbing rampage.

BBC reporter Holly Jones was at the bridge when the van came through and reported the van veered off the road and into crowds of people.

Another told Sky News there had been "significant gunfire" heard in the area.

London's transport authority said London Bridge rail station had been closed at the request of the police.

Canadian diplomats in England are advising Canadians to avoid the area around London Bridge which was the scene of an incident late Saturday.

The incident happened on a warm Saturday night in a busy area full of bars and restaurants.

The Met urged people in the three affected areas to run, hide and call the police.

LANGFITT: Absolutely, and I think that coming - three incidents like this, you know, there was a long stretch where London did not face big sort of terrorist attacks.

It is too early to say whether the incidents in London are militant attacks, European security officials told Reuters."It's too soon to say" if London Bridge incident is an attack by militants, one official said.

One witness reported having seen a van crashed into a lamppost after the bridge by the Barrowboy and Banker pub.

"After that they were nearly coming towards me and I tried to run away".

Prime Minister Theresa May said she was being updated by officials on the "fast-moving" situation, adding: "I can confirm that the awful incident in London is being treated as a potential act of terrorism".

Other witnesses reported seeing as many as three attackers with knives.

Nick Brandon of British Transport Police said the force had received reports of "multiple" casualties.

Police are treating injured people and carrying them away at the end Thrale Street.

Simon Thompson told Sky News that he was just outside Borough Market when he saw crowds fleeing.

"We went outside to the back, there was the gunfire and then we made a decision to come back in again".

Claire witnessed the London Bridge terror attack.

The Royal Oak pub, near the attack site, opened its doors to people evacuated from hotels inside the area cordoned off by police.

"A man suddenly appeared in the restaurant with a massive knife - some people in the restaurant believe there may have been another man - but it was so chaotic it was hard to tell", the witness said.

In March, a British convert to Islam ran down people with a vehicle on Westminster Bridge, killing four, then stabbed a policeman to death outside Parliament.

Britain's official terror threat had recently been lowered from "critical" after a bombing killed 22 people at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester.

A concert in honour of the Manchester victims is due to take place on Sunday evening.
