Adobe's Scan app turns photos into editable documents

Adobe Scan running on an iPhone on a background of paper documents

Users can scan on a phone and upload to Document Cloud to edit on a laptop then continue working with the document on a tablet.

All of your files are saved to the Adobe Document Cloud, so you will need to sign up (free) to use the app, if you do not have an Adobe account already.

Cross-device signature capturing lets signers review a document on their computer and sign on a touchscreen device. But a lot of digital smarts are employed behind the scenes. You can try Scan yourself here.

Once the image is finalised, an automatic OCR process converts any text into a machine-readable form which is included in the resulting PDF, making it possible to copy and paste text from the document into another application. The company has today announced a new app - Adobe Scan. The files can also be stored locally if desired.

Adobe on Wednesday launched its document scanning app called Adobe Scan. Tap the little pencil icon up top if you want to rename the document from the default "Scan [date]".

"Adobe Scan represents a radical reimagination of how to capture your most important document content", said Adobe digital media executive vice-president and general manager Bryan Lamkin.

Cloud-based digital signatures as standardised by the Adobe-led Cloud Signature Consortium can now be used within Sign.

There's one catch: users will need an Adobe ID to use it.

Scan is available on iOS and Android now, and several new Adobe Sign features are also available today. Cross-device signature capturing, custom templates, document stamping, and workflow customization are all being added.

Business users can create branded email templates to go along with documents for signature. Global businesses like Deloitte, Diners Club, MasterCard, Perkins Cole, The Royal Bank of Scotland and Verizon are using Adobe Document Cloud and Adobe Sign to digitize customer experiences.

Business stamps such as company seals or analogues of physical stamps such as "Received" can be added to documents. With data centers in the U.S., UK, Germany, Japan and Australia, organizations around the world rely on Document Cloud and Adobe Sign for fast, secure and mobile e-signatures from anywhere.
