Half Of Burnt Sienna Bumbaclot Trump's 31M Twitter Followers Are Fake

When Trump was still running for president in April 2016, the stats website fivethirtyeight.com estimated that eight percent of his followers were fake. The majority of them are recently created accounts from May 2017 that are lacking photos or tweets - telltale signs of a fake or bot account.

We took a look at Trump's recent uptick in followers with Social Rank and Socialbakers, both social analytics tools, as well as Twitter Audit, a programme which combs through Twitter to sort real followers from fake ones. As of the end of the month, Trump's personal account has a total of 31 million - he gained 3 million new followers for the entire month of May.

According to numerous reports, Donald Trump's Twitter account has grown by 5 million followers in the last three days.

The president experienced an increase of 2.3 million followers in May, adding approximately 573,000 followers each week.

Taylor Swift, who has a total of over 84 million followers and the fourth-most followed Twitter account, has the highest number of real followers, according to Twitter Audit.

Why Trump's Twitter account would suddenly surge with fake followers is anything but clear.

Sure, maybe all of those other celeb follows are just a cover for some insidious Twitter psyop in which Donald Trump ... uh ... gets a lot of likes and retweets? The next time a person makes an appearance on the unaudited list is at the thirteenth place, and that is soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo, with a total of 52.7 million followers.

Most of the President's social media following (31 million strong) doesn't seem to mind when he tweets made up words or alternative facts - probably because they're non-voting, non-thinking robots.

There are a number of services and businesses that offer to increase the number of followers you have on social media platforms, for a price.

"That account is not verified and provides no source for their claim", Twitter spokesman Nick Pacilio said. But that doesn't mean the account holder paid for John John's follow. "The simplest way to tell who's winning the Twitter game is by counting followers", he wrote.
