Celtic leave it late as Rogic's dramatic strike clinches treble

Brendan Rodgers claimed that perhaps the "stars were aligned" after substitute Tom Rogic's sensational injury-time victor gave Celtic a 2-1 William Hill Scottish Cup final win over Aberdeen and clinched an historic treble for the Hoops.

The 24-year-old found the net in the dying seconds of stoppage time at Hampden Park to give the Bhoys a 2-1 victory over Aberdeen in the final of the Scottish Cup.

The Dons' lead did not last long though as Celtic struck back just two minutes later, Stuart Armstrong picking out the bottom corner with a calm and powerful long-range effort to level matters.

"It is a monumental achievement", the Celtic manager said of his side's first treble since 2001. "If we can concentrate on our performance and play well enough to win the game then all that will come with it".

Celtic have secured numerous records this season as they romped to a sixth Premiership title in a row and lifted the League Cup.

"My initial reaction is that is twice it has happened because Kieran took a heavy elbow up at Pittodrie in the game we won 3-1". It's awesome. So I'm not going to give all the fruity answers or nice answers and say "oh, it's great, it's fantastic, brilliant, you'll love it".

"But history will judge me because I've only just begun here".

McInnes, while disappointed, believes his players have shown they cup pedigree and expects to be back at Hampden next season.

"I saw that [link] during the week and I think he is absolutely ideal for it", said Rodgers.

"It looked like the game was going to extra time". For large periods of the game we went toe to toe with Celtic. Some of our football was a bit nervous but at half-time we told the players to stay calm.

"To go unbeaten domestically, to get the treble, is just unbelievable".

Although Kenny McLean squandered a brilliant opportunity for Aberdeen, Celtic dominated proceedings after the interval - Joe Lewis in inspired form to deny both Patrick Roberts and Leigh Griffiths as Rodgers' side failed to make the most of some gilt-edged chances.

"It is a huge honour when you consider what they've achieved and you see how hard it is", the Celtic manager said.

"I'm sure he will bring in players of the same quality if not better".
