Trump in Bethlehem to meet Palestinian president

They were evil losers.

The president was greeted in the West Bank by streets lined with USA and Palestinian flags joined on lampposts, as well as signs with the faces of Trump and Abbas, saying, "The City of Peace Welcomes the Man of Peace".

"I extend my deepest condolences to those so terribly injured in this terrorist attack and to the many killed and their families." said Trump. "This wicked ideology must be obliterated". And I mean, completely obliterated, and the innocent life must be protected.

The White House has downplayed the prospects of a breakthrough on jumpstarting the Middle East peace process but Trump has been bullish on the potential for peace during his presidency. On Tuesday morning, Trump met with Abbas in Bethlehem, traveling across the barrier surrounding much of the biblical city.

The leaders are expected to discuss resuming long-stalled Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.

But as they begin to walk down the stairs, Mr Trump appears to reach out for his wife's hand - and upon feeling the touch, she brings her own up to her face and away from her husband's, rebuffing his affectionate gesture. The Palestinians want a state in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and east Jerusalem, captured by Israel a half century ago.

Netanyahu was addressing the Knesset for a special session marking Jerusalem Day, the anniversary of Israel's capture of the city's eastern half, which includes Jewish, Muslim and Christian holy sites, from Jordan in the 1967 Mideast War.

He will need to cross Israel's West Bank separation wall, which will eventually extend some 700 kilometers to separate Israel and Palestinian territories.

Bethlehem is ringed by the barrier on three sides.

U.S. President Donald Trump is on a quest for 'the ultimate deal'.

The last talks between the Israelis and Palestinians, led by former USA secretary of state John Kerry, broke down in April 2014 after around a year of largely fruitless discussion. While both Netanyahu and Abbas reiterated during Trump's visit a commitment to peace, both also face domestic constraints on their ability to manoeuvre or compromise.

Tuesday marked the third meeting between the two leaders in May. Trump is expected to make remarks during the meeting on the deadly explosion at a concert in Manchester, England.

Trump arrived at the Israel Museum after laying a wreath at Yad Vashem, Israel's Holocaust memorial. "Benjamin Netanyahu wants peace". Still, White House officials have downplayed expectations for a significant breakthrough on this trip.

While in Rome, the couple will meet Pope Francis at the Vatican before heading to Sicily for the annual G7 economics summit.

US First Lady Melania also left notes at the other side of the Western Wall. By visiting the wall, which sits adjacent to one of Islam's holiest shrines, the Dome of the Rock, Trump will be viewed as putting a thumb on the scale on the highly contentious issue of Jerusalem.

However, he noted that if the suicide bomber were Palestinian and the young victims Israelis, the reaction of Palestinian leaders would have been different. Trump himself never commented.

Trump also addressed reports saying he shared classified Israeli information about an ISIS threat with Russian diplomats in the Oval Office, insisting he never used the word "Israel." I am telling you.
