WannaCry Ransomware: Microsoft Calls Out NSA For 'Stockpiling' Vulnerabilities

WannaCry Ransomware 48,000 Cyber Attack Attempts Seen in India Says Quick Heal

Putin said that Russian Federation was not behind the attack.

Infected computers appear to largely be out-of-date devices that organizations deemed not worth the price of upgrading or, in some cases, machines involved in manufacturing or hospital functions that proved too hard to patch without possibly disrupting crucial operations, security experts said.

Security firms say Russian Federation was the country that was hit the hardest.

An official from Cybersecurity Administration China (CAC) told local media on Monday that while the ransomware was still spreading and had affected industry and government computer systems, the spread was slowing.

USA and European security officials told Reuters on condition of anonymity that it was still too early to say who might be behind the attacks, but they did not rule out North Korea as a suspect.

Dame Fiona and the Care Quality Commission wrote to Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt to highlight a "lack of understanding of security issues", according to the newspaper, and that "the external cyber threat is becoming a bigger consideration".

Organizations and networks worldwide have since Friday been dealing with the fallout of massive ransomware attack that exploited a hole in PCs running Microsoft Windows that haven't been updated.

The attack has hit more than 200,000 victims across the world since Friday and is seen as an "escalating threat", said Rob Wainwright, the head of Europol, Europe's policing agency.

Security experts said a second wave of the attack could affect employees across the globe again, starting Monday and even spilling into the rest of the week. PSA Group, Fiat Chrysler, Volkswagen, Daimler, Toyota and Honda said their plants were unaffected.

But Prime Minister Theresa May has rejected claims the government ignored warnings the NHS was vulnerable to a possible attack. The company said the virus has been localized and "technical work is underway to destroy it and update the antivirus protection". "MeitY has also requested Microsoft India to inform all their partners and customers to apply relevant patches", the ministry said in a statement.

Authorities are also asking anyone affected by the virus to go to nomoreransom.org for more information about how to unlock your computer without paying the attackers.

RSN chief executive Graham Biggs said: "This is an extremely worrying situation for rural patients and for small rural practices which operate on a limited budget".

NHS Digital says IT staff were sent link to a patch that could have prevented last week's cyberattack. Something more focused with knowledge of NHS systems could have done something much worse.

Urging businesses and computer users to keep their systems current and updated, Smith says the WannaCry attack shows the importance of collective action to fight cybercrime. "We will continue to work with affected (organizations) to confirm this", the agency said.
